Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a waste management company, on Thursday sprayed the Koforidua Jackson�s Park to rid the place of bees that had invaded the area and attacking people.
For about a week now, the bees, found on the trees in the area and believed to have been disturbed, had been attacking traders around the park, thus disrupting trading activities.
Shops around the Jackson Park had been closed, whilst food vendors had moved to other spots for fear of being attacked by the bees.
Reports reaching the GNA indicated that, last Wednesday, a teacher who passed by the park, was severely stung by the bees and had to be rushed to the Central hospital for treatment.
Briefing the GNA after the spraying exercise, Mr Ernest Kusi, Regional Operations Supervisor of Zoomlion, said management was informed by the municipal assembly of the invasion of the bees and their threat to economic activities.
He said with the collaboration of the assembly, Zoomlion responded with the spraying of the park in the night, which he said, was the best time since the bees become inactive during that period.
When the GNA visited the Park on Friday morning, many dead bees were found on the ground; whiles the staff of Zoomlion was busily clearing them away.
Business activity around the area had bounced back and people were seen in small groups discussing, as the area was being cleaned.
Some of the traders who spoke to the GNA thanked Zoomlion for the intervention and urged the company to spray periodically since it appeared the bees had hives on the trees.
