The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Awutu-Senya East Municipal Assembly, Hon. Adams Kofi Nuhu stands accused by the Unit Committee Members of the Municipal Assembly for deliberately destroying the concept of decentralised governance.

The Unit Committee Members in a press release copied to Peacefmonline.com, described the Awutu-Senya East Municipal Assembly as “self-seeking autocratic appointee of government”, illegally preventing the work of the Unit Committee Members.

They have asserted that Hon. Adams Nuhu has disregarded his core mandate to use the approved Ghc50, 000 for the orientation of the Assembly and the Unit Committee Members since they were elected last year September 2015, believing it to be a ploy to obstruct probity and accountability which are the very foundation of the overarching District Assembly concept.

The concept of decentralised governance is a novelty. The District Assembly concept is an idea which should not be allowed to be destroyed by some self-seeking autocratic appointees of government.

We the unit committee members of the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly regret to announce to the whole world that the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Adams Kofi Nuhu is autocratically and illegally preventing the work of Unit Committee Members. Perhaps it is deliberate ploy to obstruct probity and accountability which are the very foundation of the overarching District Assembly concept.

We are unable to comprehend the reasons for the wonton disregard for rules and regulations by the MCE. We ask of the where-about of the Ghc50, 000 which was approved for the orientation of Assembly and Unit Committee Members.

We the Unit Committee Members have been elected since September 2015. It will interest you to know that up till now, we have not had any orientations as to the direction of work that has to bone.

Zonal Councils have been inaugurated but not all Zonal Councils have offices. The few offices that exist are occupied and controlled by some greedy NDC foot soldiers that have no locus in the zones but are only loyal to the MCE, Hon Adams Kofi Nuhu. They extort money from unsuspecting citizens. The alarming aspect is that the monies so extorted neither go to the government nor used for the local development in the zone. Those monies go to corrupt pockets of these foot soldiers to the detriment of development in the zones.

The approved 2016 composite budget of the assembly allocated is Ghc114, 148.85 for the construction of two Zonal Councils. What has happened to the allocation? An amount of Ghc49, 148.85 has also been approved for the rental of Zonal Council offices; where is the money?

These illegalities and irregularities have rendered unit committee members in the assembly very much disused and people have started asking for the relevance of our existence in the various electoral areas.

We are therefore giving the MCE an ultimatum of two weeks (14 days) to do the needful by allowing the system of decentralisation work properly within the municipality or we will advice ourselves.
