Police Condemn Sammy Awuku Over Vague Promises

The Police Administration has cautioned NPP’s Youth Organizer, Sammy Awuku against vague promises that have the tendency of creating a false impression about the service.

It has subsequently condemned Mr Awuku’s promise to slash the price for Police recruitment forms should Nana Akufo Addo become President.

According to the Director of Police Public Affairs, DSP Cephas Arthur, it’s impossible because government has no hand in and cannot run the day to day administration of the Police Service.

The Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party has said the party will ensure that police forms are not sold above GHC 50 cedis when voted into power. Sammy Awuku who spoke on Accra based CITI FM, described charges for the forms as unreasonable considering the fact that the registration was done online.

“The cost of the forms should cover the cost of printing and distribution and this time around it was more of an internet based so what is the cost of printing and distribution. The 100 cedis is suicidal. It is a high road to suicide. People are even going back to their parents to take that 100 cedis and we know that they [Police Service] will not take more than 3000 people.”

In a swift rebuttal, the Police Administration condemned attempt to drag it into partisan politics. DSP Cephas Arthur who spoke in a radio interview said such desperate propaganda does not auger well for good governance.

“We are in the system and know the dynamics at play in fixing the price. This kind of politics will not help anybody and the Police institution. It is wrongfully casting the Police in the wrong light. It’s bad. Then it means an NPP led government will be fixing prices for entry forms into Universities, training colleges and other tertiary institutions as well. Then they should stop them now” DSP Arthur lamented.

He emphasized “they should do their politics and leave us alone to carry out our mandate. Has he asked why the Military and other security agencies like Immigration and Fire Service sell recruitment forms?

The Police Director of Public Affairs questioned why its become the habit of Sammy Awuku and his NPP to tarnish the image of the Police Service. He described his comment as unfortunate. He said the NPP is so passionate then its Youth Organizer should rather be promising they will be given out free of charge.

NPP’s Youth Organizer is prosecuting an agenda to exploit the unemployed youth through lies and unrealistic promises. Mr Awuku and his pay masters, Nana Akufo Akufo Addo and Dr Mahamadu Bawumia have been accusing the Mahama Administration of failing to create jobs for the youth yet are unable to clearly spell out how the NPP intends to fill that gap.

In a desperate attempt to send a message of hope, Sammy Awuku shot himself in the foot by referring to the Police recruitment forms. Attempts to get the NPP Youth Organizer for clarity or response to the position of the Police Service proved futile since he declined to pick calls.
