Destruction Of GRIDCo Lines Causes Blackout In Large Part Of The Country

A large part of the country have been without light from midnight of Wednesday (today) following the destruction of the main GRIDCo transmission line in the Aboadze enclave from a rain storm.

Speaking to Joy News, Deputy Power Minister, John Jinapor said he received a call from the Control Centre that there was a main fault on the Tafo-Akwatia main transmission line, which had caused the blackout.

He however said Engineers are currently working around the clock to fix the problem.

“When you have a challenge you will quickly move in a gang to first of all isolate the problem and find a way of rectifying it but because it was dark, engineers couldn’t move in that time of the morning and so that fault took out the entire Aboadze enclave and its power generation. So all the generators in Aboadze the thermal plants went down in response to the fault. Engineers have since moved in to fix the problem and restore power to the whole country.”

Hon. Jinapor said from his experience it should not take more than a day to fix the problem.
