NDCS Track Record Solid, Manifesto To Project Ongoing Policies - Kofi Adams

The National Organizer of the NDC has described as laughable, claims by the largest opposition party, NPP that government is waiting for them to launch their manifesto in order to steal ideas.

Mr. Adams says NDC’s track record is solid and verifiable. They party is focused and knows beneficiaries of the numerous projects are feeling the impact, something government believes will translate into votes for a convincing victory in the Presidential elections.

The NDC National Organizer who was speaking on OKAY FM’s morning show said the New Patriotic Party has no campaign message. Their strategy so far, he argued, is to harp on mistakes government may make and run to the media to blow it out of proportion to sound as if everything has gone that bad.

Mr. Adams was responding to Mr. Mac Manu’s assertion that NDC has failed and will be kicked out of power.

He said President Mahama launched the Green Book with pictures showing what he has done, Nana Addo described them as artistic impressions.

“I don’t know if its about the Police Hospital in Accra, the Maritime Hospital in Tema, the Dodowa Hospital, the Ridge Hospital, the University of Ghana Medical School or the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, the Kasoa Interchange and Komenda Sugar Factory, the commissioned Adomi Bridge, the expansion works at the Kotoka International Airport, the Tamale and Ho Airports, the University of Health and Allied Science, the regional hospitals in Wa and Tamale, and even the water treatment plant  that has improved supply to Nana Addo’s hometown just to say a few. Yet till date, the party has not been able to dispute any of the numerous projects mentioned” Mr. Adams argued.

“Most Ghanaians knew the situation in the country under the NPP regime. I remember those in Accra raised a lot of concerns about access to potable water. People used carry yellow gallons tagged “Kufuor Gallons” over long distances. Today it’s a thing of the past. Those homes which have taps flowing will acknowledge the change. Has there been improvement in their lives? Yes. Parents who had become weather forecasters just to ensure their wards stay away from school during rainstorms are happy because over 4,000 schools under trees have been replaced. Several health facilities, massive investments being added which will not only give hope to the sick but help train and employ doctors, nurses and other paramedical staff as well as opportunities for health service providers are there for all to see”. He added.

Mr. Adams said Mac Manu who comes from the Western region is aware of the Port expansion project.  He said the NPP Campaign Manager knows the broken down rail lines are being repaired.

“Under their regime, they sold the railings as scrap. We are fixing the mess they left behind and the Railway Company will bounce back. The one billion dollar Atuabo Gas project which has help to ease the power crisis and frequent LPG shortages is there. The massive road infrastructure projects across the country are there for all to see: He added.

On NPPs mantra that everything has collapsed and the economy is in crisis, Mr. Adams said Ghana has never recorded a negative growth in GDP. He explained further that Ghana is far ahead of Cote D’Iviore, Nigeria and other countries in terms of electricity coverage, access to education among other indicators, contrary to what Nana Addo and the NPP want Ghanaians to believe.

“They must stop the lies. Nana Addo told Ghanaians outside the country that we import plantain when he knows very well it’s a seasonal crop like Yam, tomatoes, mangoes, watermelon, oranges and so on. Nana Addo lied that government spent 10million dollars on Presidential diaries. He has failed to apologize when he was exposed. He lied about the Ridge Hospital project, he was exposed by his own MP yet he continues to mislead the public” he noted.

Kofi Adams also condemned the NPP Campaign Manager’s threat to declare their own result after the November elections. Mr. Mac Manu who was addressing NPP supporters in the Western region vowed to defy regulations.

“In this election, the NPP will also declare our own results,” Mr. Mac Manu said amid shouts and cheers from party supporters in Takoradi.

The former Chairman of the NPP added: “...The IGP cannot stop us. Whether you are the Electoral Commission, whether you are a peace or security officer, whether you are a polling agent, whether you are a chief, you cannot stop NPP from declaring results.”

NDC’s National Organizer said the NPP like all other parties know the EC’s mandate and are clearly aware of the processes involved in collating election results. He said such unguarded statements to incite the public and to prepare the grounds for chaos as defeat stares at them must be condemned by all.

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has also condemned the NPP Campaign Manager’s loose talk saying it is wrong for any political party to declare election results because that is the preserve of the Electoral Commission.

“The important thing is that no party has to announce any results apart from the Electoral Commission. You can collate, yes. You want to compare that at the end of the day to what the Electoral Commission brings up, but you want to do it on the quiet,” National Coordinator of CODEO, Albert Arhin explained.

Any attempt to announce results before the EC could lead to confusion according to the CODEO National Coordinator, but that will be avoided if all parties wait on the EC as far as the declaration of results is concerned.

“When the commission has not announced anything, you don’t have to say anything because that may bring some confusion into the system. So you wait, the commission announces its result and then you compare it to what you have.”
