Gov't Must Roll Out Punitive Measures To Deter People From Displaying Bad Environmental Practices

Presidential Staffer Kojo Adu Asare has cautioned Ghanaians to change their attitude so as to prevent another flood situation in the country.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'kokrokoo', Hon. Adu Asare bemoaned the lax attitude of some Ghanaians that has been contributing to the yearly occurrence of the floods in the nation.

According to him, it is prudent that the government rolls out punitive measures to deter people from displaying bad environmental practices.

Practices like dumping refuse in drainage systems, choking trenches with rubbish and other related activities undertaken by some Ghanaians, to him; should be stopped.

Hon. Adu Asare wants the government to begin to sanction people.

"Some people are really the cause. Others also become victims. Sometimes, those who are really the cause also become victims.”

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Director, Nana Akomea, also touching on the issue on 'kokrokoo', blamed the government for the floods.

Alluding to some statements by President John Dramani Mahama that State authorities "must now strategize to prevent floods and stop behaving like vultures," claiming the President and his government have not learned any lessons from previous incidents.

To him, it appears the nation is indeed behaving like "vultures" under the leadership of President John Mahama because years down the lane, the country still experiences flood situations.

Also contributing to the programme, the Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper advised the government to begin to harvest rains to prevent the floods.

He further spoke against the bad practices of Ghanaians that cause the floods and so urged the citizenry to desist from such behaviours.
