Spanish Government to support two vocational training centres

The Spanish Government has pledged to offer equipment and technical support to two Ghanaian vocational training Centres to help train more Ghanaian youth to acquire employable skills. These are the Kumasi and Biriwa Vocational Training Centres (VTCs). Mr. Stephen Amponsah, Director of the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), said the Spanish assistance was in response to an appeal by the Institute. The two beneficiary training centres would take delivery of carpentry tools, welding, fabrication and auto electrical equipment by December, 2009. Mr. Amponsah made this known at the third graduation ceremony of the Implant Training Programme of the Kumasi VTC on Friday. In all, 213 students graduated at a ceremony where they were awarded certificates, after three months training in dressmaking, masonry and carpentry, motor-vehicle body repairs, catering, and auto electrical. The NVTI Director urged government to invest in vocational and skills training education to empower the youth to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the nation. Mr. Seth Daniel Oduro, Manager of the Kumasi VTC, praised Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame, for donating 100 bags of cement to the Centre towards the construction of a building. He called on philanthropists to help expand facilities at the Centre to admit more students.
