Mr Eric Cobbina, the District Chief Executive of Shama, has urged teachers who have received RLG lap-top computers from the Government to use them to educate their students and not for their private work.

He said the Government’s determination to ensure that the youth were abreast with the technologically advanced world had encouraged it to mobilise the computers for the schools.

Mr Cobbina gave the advice when he presented 420 lap-top computers and 350 sets of dual desks to teachers and the schools, respectively, in the fishing community of Shama, in the Western Region.

He said the development of the human resource base was key to the socio-economic development of the nation and this required the teachers to ensure that the students used the machines profitably to enhance learning but not for programmes that were detrimental to their education.

The DCE said officials of the District Assembly would pay unannounced visits to the schools to monitor the usage of the computers and those who were found abusing them would be sanctioned.

Mr Charles Ngumah, the Shama District Director of Education, who received the items on behalf of the beneficiaries, said teachers with the knowledge in Information Communication and Technology (ICT) were available to handle the subject.

Others, he said, had been trained in repairing the computers.

The teachers gave the assurance that they would assist the students to acquire concrete knowledge to promote quality education.
