A-Plus: I am a businessman

Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has no doubt become one of the most controversial musicians ever to hit the Ghanaian music scene. With songs like; Age gon, A letter to the West, Letter to parliament, Mirror Mirror and Excuse me, he is one of the most talked about musicians in the country. A-Plus disclosed in an interview with myjoyonline that he is a fully fledged businessman who does not have to rely solely on music for a living. He refuted speculations that he is a New Patriotic Party (NPP) member and that he took sides with Nana Akufo-Addo during Election 2008 because he was paid to. He explained that Nana Akufo-Addo has been his long-time friend, and he believed that he was better placed to manage the country, that was why he openly declared his support for him, a decision he says he has not regretted. He said, There is nothing wrong with taking political sides. There are influential people like Kofi Wayo who supported the NPP and now the National Democratic Congress (NDC) because of what he believed in. A-Plus said he will release his new album by the end of the year. He has however just finished a track with Sidney; Enko Yie (All is not well), which is on Sidneys latest album. Touching on what to expect this time around, he hinted that, I have a trademark and I have worked hard to build that brand and I dont want to leave that. The system here is wrong and it takes people like me to fix it because the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) President is a coward. He expressed his displeasure with the current situation where Ghanaians seem not to value what is homegrown, but rather adore music and artistes that come from other countries like Nigeria. He said if the system was functioning properly, there would not be an influx of Nigerian music and South American telenovelas crowding our airwaves. He also expressed his disgust with the situation where foreign artistes invited to the country to perform are paid huge sums of money, and also enjoy world class hotels, over local artistes. As usual, his next album will seek to hammer on societal challenges. He implored Ghanaians to be on the look-out for the soon-to-be outdoored album.
