The Brong-Ahafo Regional Directorate of Education has acted to intensify supervision and monitoring to control examination malpractices in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which started on Monday at the 155 centres in the Region, without any hitch.

The Directorate is doing this by tasking the Municipal and District Directors of Education to close their offices and dispatch officials to the examination centres to monitor the examination.

Mr. Augustine Kusi, the Public Relations Officer at the Regional Directorate of Education told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview on Monday in Sunyani that about 42,698 candidates, comprising 22,716 boys and 19,943 girls were writing the examination at the various centres in the Region.

He expressed concern about the growing examination malpractices in the BECE in the Region and said it was essential that the Directorate did everything to ensure that the situation was brought under control.

Mr. Kusi advised the candidates not to send any foreign materials into the examination hall and endeavour to do independent work.

Meanwhile, when the Ghana News Agency visited some of the examination centres in the Municipality around 0700 hours, most of the candidates and invigilators had arrived.
