Korle Bu Closes Down Surgical Emergency Unit

The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has suspended admissions at its surgical emergency unit. This was contained in a notice issued by the Medical Directorate and posted at the entrance of the unit two days ago.

Authorities at the unit explained that they had to put admissions on hold because the unit was full beyond its capacity.

They further indicated that they did not want to compromise on health care delivery hence their decision.

The notice however failed to indicate an alternative unit where referrals from
the surgical/ medical emergency unit should be directed to.

It is expected that baring any hitches the unit will resume full operations today [Friday] since the notice indicated that it will be closed for only 48 hours.

Korle Bu closes down 3 surgical clinics

In February, the hospital similarly announced the closure of three surgical clinics.

The closure was to allow ongoing works to be completed in some of the theatre and recovery wards in the Department of Surgery. The three clinics were General Surgery, Neurosurgery and Urology.
