Two Car Snatchers Grabbed

Two young men who decided to snatch cabs from unsuspecting drivers in Accra and use it for commercial services back in Assin Anyinabrem are in the grips of the Accra Regional Police Command.

They two are John Appiah and Kwabena Brefo, both masons and in their early 30s.

According to the police, the two stopped a taxi around a drinking spot at the Trade Fair Centre, La, and asked the driver to get down and assist them load some items they were carrying into the taxi.

As soon as the driver got down to help them, the two quickly jumped into the cab and sped off, leaving the driver to his fate.

Through police investigations and the help of the local police at Assin Anyinabrem in the Central Region, John was arrested.

At the time of the arrest, he had replaced the original registration number of the stolen cab – GR 2273-16 – with ER 2528-11 and given it to another driver to work and make sales for him.

Further interrogation by the police led to the arrest of Charles Teifum, 39, who was in possession of the stolen cab.

The police later found out that John Appiah and Kwabena Brefo, masterminds behind the theft, came all the way from Assin Nsuta to carry out the operation and planned that when they succeeded, they would send the car back and use it for commercial purposes.

They also discovered that whenever a stolen vehicle develops a fault, they abandon it and come back to Accra for another operation.

The two suspects sometimes dismantle the car and sell it as spare parts.

Per police investigations so far, the duo have succeeded in snatching over three cars, and efforts are underway to recover them.
