Patients, Doctors Mad At Kath CEO

There is simmering tension at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, KATH, in the Ashanti Region as both staff and patients of the health facility are grumbling over the decision of its CEO Dr. Joseph Akpaloo to procure for his use, a luxurious 2016 Model Nissan Patrol while basic equipments are left broken down.

The new car which is said to have cost the referral center a fortune of about $130,000.00 because of the specifications of the CEO, was spotted on the precincts of the hospital with many onlookers pointing figures at with some making uncomplimentary remarks about the decision.

The purchase of the luxurious vehicle comes at a time when the Computer Thermography Scan (CT scan) has broken down for more than six months. One of the elevators has also broken down for about a month but the hospital administration says there is no money to fix them.

“I did not take the decision on my own. It was the decision of the hospital so that is it”, Dr Akpaloo told our reporter.

“Look, patients are even lying on floor because of lack of beds so why should he as the CEO of this facility put his opulent comfort ahead of the patients?. I am very sad and mad”, a clearly livid Medical Doctor of KATH told this paper on condition of anonymity.

“Many patients who seek medical help here are forced to visit private facilities because of the malfunctioning CT Scan and that should be the priority of the CEO”, the Medical Doctor added.

A patient on admission also told The New Crusading GUIDE that patients are forced to pay GHc 30.00 to the government ambulance which is supposed to help patients in the hospital whenever there is referral to a different ward.

“I think the government must do something about this. So many things are not functioning well and if the CEO can use this amount to buy a car just for his use, the there is a big problem”, the patient added.
