Board members of the Ghana Cultural Fund (GCF) last week approved an amount of over GH� 78,000 for diverse projects following a fifth call for applications by the Institute for Music and Development, administrators of the fund.
This follows recommendations by a Peer Review Committee made up of experts from various fields of endeavour that vetted over 50 applications from individuals, groups and institutions throughout the country.
The six successful applicants are Foundation for Contemporary Art, Youth Home Cultural Group, Not a Waste Recycle Art, Music Department, University of Cape Coast, Media Line and Koo Nimo Cultural Resource Centre in Kumasi.
Projects to be undertaken include the renovation of a community park and painting of murals, creation of an online arts journal, purchase of musical instruments, training of youth to employ the use of plastic waste for art works and setting up of a cultural resource centre.
Members of the Peer Review Committee that vetted the applications were Marigold Akufo-Addo, a renowned painter, Zapp Mallet, musician/producer, Akosua Sadia Abdallah, an acclaimed actress, Yaw Berko Nuako, head of the Department of Film Directing at the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), Freeman Aguuri of the Cultural Unit of the Ghana Education Service and PaJohn Dadson, a cultural journalist/administrator.
