Complainant Against Joy FM Receives Death Threat

A complainant against the 'unprofessional' conduct of JOY FMs Host of the Super Morning Show has begun receiving death threats. Nii Addo Quaynor, a law student who wrote an open letter to the station and spoke to a number of radio stations says he has been receiving calls threatening to teach him a lesson for taking on JOY FM and the entire Multimedia Group.

Nii Addo Quaynor tells this newspaper, a gentleman who mentioned his name initially as George with a telephone line, 0244-544-793 called him on Saturday and hurled insults at him amidst threats for daring to teach JOY FM a lesson.

Nii Addo Quaynor is subsequently seeking advice on how to deal with the matter. He tells the news paper none of such cowardly acts will stop him from seeking professional work done in this election year.

Those incensed by his unfortunate comments say his apology is fake because his demeanor exposes his diabolical agenda with his cohorts to taint the image of President John Mahama to satisfy their pay masters.

Kojo Yankson and some staff of Multimedia have been accused of flirting with some pressure groups whose agenda is to help the main opposition party, NPP to unseat the Mahama Administration.

Mr Yankson has come under heavy criticism for the mischief he sought to play when he had a brief chat live on air with a Pastor, about the President’s recent motorbike ride through some flood prone communities in Accra and news that he had registered a gun.

Nii Addo Quaynor’s anger stems from the nature of the apology and his conviction that Chief Executive of the Multimedia group, Kwesi Twum endorses it. He noted with regret the abuse of innocent people and the airwaves in general in the name of press freedom.

Nii Addo Quaynor on Friday told Kwame Nkrumah Tikese of Accra based OKAY FM, during a follow up to his letter  “His apology was more than insult. We are all educated and we can read in between the lines. He never showed remorse and he will pay dearly for that.

“Just recently, a Legal practitioner was arrested in Nigeria for insulting President Mahamadu Buhari. A former beauty queen was also arrested in Nigeria for insulting the President. In Kenya, a student was jailed for two years for using social media to insult a President and 11 Burundian students were jailed in Turkey for insulting the Turkish President”

He explained he does not wish similar actions in Ghana but said media practitioners especially hosts of programmes with huge platforms must respect their audience and their sensibilities.

He added.. “Even if you hate John Daramani Mahama, at least show respect for his office. To equate the President to an armed robber and turn round to say you were joking is an insult to the entire public, How will the public react if I chose to use any media platform to insult Nana Addo, the IGP, Head of the Christian Council or any influential person in society?.”

Nii Addo Quayor asked OKAY FM’s Morning Show host, “Is this the level journalism has reached in this country. The GJA Code of Ethics is clear. So as a journalist, you need to weigh what you want to say taking into consideration the interest of the larger society.”

The law student called on Kwesi Twum and management must reprimand Kojo Yankson. He however threatened to liaise with other aggrieved Ghanaians to ensure Mr Yankson does not go scot free for the smear campaign against the President.

Meanwhile a group calling itself Women for Mahama an offshoot of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) wants host of the Super Morning Show of Joy FM, Kojo Yankson sacked for describing the president as an armed robber.

A press release signed  by its National Coordinator, by Theresa Awuni accused the multimedia journalist of deliberately setting out to falsely accuse and assassinate the image of the President.

WOMEN FOR MAHAMA CALLS FOR THE SACK OF KOJO YANKSON AS HOST OF JOY FM’s

We have heard with total revulsion the equation of the President of the Republic of Ghana by the host of the Super Morning Show of Joy FM to an armed robber. Having taken time to listen to his comment and his subsequent apology, we are clear in our minds that Mr Kojo Yankson deliberately set out to falsely accuse and assassinate the image of our President and was not repentant after the public outcry his comment generated.

As a result, we are calling on the employers of Mr Kojo Yankson, Joy FM and Multimedia, to withdraw his appointment as host of their morning show. This is because we are certain that such media operatives pose a severe danger to national peace if they continue to have access to public media to speak to the public.

If he continues to be on air and keeps insulting the President of the country and also prominent members of our society, the country will degenerate into an angry mob similar to what happened in war torn countries. We do not want that on Ghana. That is why we are calling on Multimedia and

Kwesi Twum to relieve Kojo Yankson of his role to help clean up the air space and save Ghana from this unethical journalism.

Ghana deserves better. Our President deserves better.

Thank you.

Theresa Awuni
