Chief Blames Galamsey Activities On Police

The Chief of Wasa Dadieso in the Western Region, Nana Oteng Andoh II is accusing the Wasa Akropong Police of doing little to curb galamsey activities on their mining concession.

The chief in an interview with Adom News said several meetings with the Assembly and the Divisional Police Command have not yielded any results.

According to him the police “the police are just there watching these galamsayers continue to encroach our concession, destroying lands and water bodies because they are also part of it".

He accused one police officer of owning a mining site who he believes has contributed to the menace in the town.

“One Inspector Coffie and his men have dug galamsey pit along the Wasa Akropong-Ayanfuri Highway and it has become a big worry to us” he cried.

“Sometimes they even go to the extent of attacking us anytime we complain. These illegal miners are doing serious underground mining on our sites and if no action is taken as soon as possible, the whole town will wake up one day to a collapsed community” he said.

Nana Oteng Andoh is therefore calling on government to intervene and stop the police from destroying the road.
