Baba Jamal Insults Hairdressers

Political tension is currently mounting at the Akwatia Constituency – one of the flash points in the Eastern Region – as Mohammed Baba Jamal, the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for the area and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Ama Sey, have verbally been attacking each other.

DAILY GUIDE learnt that Baba Jamal, who apparently finds Ms Ama Sey to be a threat to him, had started attacking her personality, describing her as a hairdresser and illiterate who might not be able to speak on behalf of the constituents in parliament when she is voted for.

Interestingly, almost all the hardcore supporters of Baba Jamal have moved to Ms Ama Sey’s camp, a move that has obviously frustrated Baba, as he fears he may lose the seat to the NPP candidate.

In her response, Ms Ama Sey has also described Baba Jamal as a ‘pocket lawyer’ who had not even stepped into any courtroom to defend any case.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that this ‘cold war’ gathered momentum when Baba Jamal and Ama Sey, with other political opponents, were invited to a programme on TV3, but the lady, after consultations with the Akwatia NPP executives, didn’t turn up.

Baba Jamal reportedly said on the show that he had lobbied for the cocoa roads to be constructed in the constituency, among other projects, under his initiative.

However, Ama Sey, on Baba Jamal’s own radio station – Denkyembour FM’s – mid-day news bulletin, explained that she didn’t show up at the TV3 programme because Baba Jamal is a liar who had never lobbied for any projects for the constituency.

Baba Jamal, who was infuriated by the NPP woman’s comments, phoned into the station and used harsh words on the lady.

Meanwhile, the Akwatia NDC Constituency Chairman, B.B. Moro, sensing that the matter might get out of hand, had issued a press statement to condemn the incumbent MP (who doubles as the NDC parliamentary aspirant for election 2016) and also calmed the tempers of the two candidates.

The Akwatia NPP constituency executives were yet to react on the impasse as at press time last night.
