A former President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) 2006/2007, William Yamoah has congratulated Manasseh Azure Awuni of Multimedia Group for his courage, patriotism and high journalistic ethics.
I wish he will continue the good fight because posterity will remember his good deeds and bravery, he said.
In a release he sent from the US, the former NUGS President said the evidence produced by Manasseh Azure Awuni is incontrovertible, adding that “I wish that all well-meaning Ghanaians would applaud him and also ask the president to do the thinkable by resigning immediately.”
He also called on the leadership of the Minority in Parliament to, as a matter of urgency and call to duty, initiate impeachment proceedings against the president to restore the sanctity of the constitution if the president does not see the decency to resign voluntarily.
Failure of the Minority to swiftly initiate impeachment proceedings against President John Dramani Mahama will be a confirmation of the perception by Ghanaians that the minority is indeed in bed with the government.”
The hour, he said, has come for the minority in parliament to wake up from its slumber and redeem its sinking image. Corruption in Ghana, according to him, has become the stock-in-trade of the Mahama-led NDC administration, adding that many cases of corruption have been exposed but nothing has been done to remedy the situation.
He said it was surprising for Ghanaians to wake up on Monday, June 13th 2016 to the shocking revelation that the incorruptible president of the republic of Ghana His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, who recently attended anti-corruption conference in the United Kingdom at the behest of the UK Prime Minister, had allegedly received a Ford Expedition from a Burkinabe contractor ostensibly to award him government contracts.
“I find this revelation to be a serious breach of trust reposed in the president and also a breach of the 1992 constitution which his powers to govern emanate,” he said.
It is important to note that corruption has dire consequences on the citizenry, the economy and society as a whole some of which are under-development, injustices, dysfunctional governance and ineffective taxing systems which makes it difficult to track down financial activities of taxpayers besides weak institutions and cultural values.”
