Gender Ministry Overspends Budget By GH₵1.7m

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has overspent its budget by GH₵1,717,874.25.

Consequently, the amount was spent on the construction of the Ministry’s office building but the project has been abandoned.

This follows the failure of the Finance Ministry to release additional funding for the completion of the project.

The excess expenditure, according to the 2013 audited report of the Auditor-General, emanated from releases for capital expenditure of GH₵2,393,013.08 for the construction of the project.

According to the Auditor-General, the said amount was originally not included in the budget but the Ministry of Finance saw the need to support the Ministry’s office project and therefore released the money.

Gender Minister, Nana Oye Lithur, appearing before the Public Accounts Committee, Wednesday, told the panel that her outfit has submitted a request for payment and are waiting for the release of the funds.
