Women Demonstrate Against Kennedy Agyapong Over EC Boss Comment (Photos)

Scores of women at Koforidua the Eastern regional capital hit the streets today demanding the immediate dismissal of the Assin Central Member of Parliament. This follows his misogynistic comments against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Charlotte Osei.

Mr. Agyapong while addressing New Patriotic Party (NPP) members at Asokwa in the Ashanti region said the EC Chair gave sexual favours in order to be considered for her current position. The comments have drawn condemnations from many individuals, organizations, civil society and women groups. Also his colleague MPs demand punitive action to be taken against the Assin Central MP after he alleged that the EC boss got her job by sleeping with power brokers.

In support, the concern women of the Eastern region called on the Speaker of Parliament to as a matter of urgency expel Ken Agyapong from the August House. Convener of the group, Evelyn Korang in an interview with Adom News said the conduct of the Assin Central MP must be condemned in no uncertain terms.

She noted that, no “right thinking” man will make such an unfortunate comment against a woman working hard for Ghana. “Ken Agyapong does not deserve to be in Parliament; his comment must be condemned by all including his party flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo” she fumed.

Ms. Korang who is also the Regional Womens Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said “an attack on any female is an attack on all women”.
