Five persons have died and eight critically injured in an accident at Nnoboam, on the Kumasi-Konongo road in the Ashanti Region.
The accident happened at about 8:30pm Thursday June 30 after a Sprinter bus carrying about 13 passengers collided with an articulated truck.
Konongo-Odumase Divisional Police Commander Suprintendent Ohene Boadi confirmed the incident to Class News.
“Yes, it is true there has been an accident at Konongo between New Koforidua and Nobewam…; an accident has happened there [involving] an articulated MAN Diesel truck, carrying logs, with registration number GT 874-11, and a Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus with registration number AW 5174-13. The tipper truck was stationary,” he said.
He added that the Sprinter was coming from Konongo and its driver could have been sleeping, running into the stationary truck, killing five persons – a lady and four gentlemen. The men died on the spot while the lady passed away later in hospital.
The bodies have been deposited at the Steward Hospital Morgue while the critically injured passengers are receiving treatment at the Konongo Government Hospital.
