More Buildings To Be Pulled Down AMA Boss

The Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Hon. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuiye, says it is time for a fresh focus to be given to proper urban planning in order to deal with the challenges of massive unplanned, unbalanced and uncontrolled growth of urban centres, most especially in Accra. According to him, when this is done, it will enhance human settlement which is considered as agent of change and in turn will help create an enabling environment for more jobs and investment opportunities for all. The Accra Mayor intimated that the AMA is strategically leading out programmes like the Urban Environmental Sanitation Project (USEP II) which will take off on the 15th of October, this year, with the construction and repair of roads on the old Winneba road and within Old Dansoman, Mamprobi, Chorkor and New Dansoman, and the pulling down of about 200 illegally built houses amongst other things for a better Accra. Mr Vanderpuije said these at a grand durbar held to mark the celebration of the United Nations (UN) World Habitat Day yesterday in Accra. The celebration, which is set aside by the UN annually, is to help reflect on state of towns and cities and the basic right to adequate shelter for all, and was under the theme planning our urban future for this year.
