Two Jailed for Stealing from House of God

Emmanuel Afenyi Abeiku, 22, and a 32-year-old farmer, Isaac Mensah, have been sentenced to two years each in prison for stealing from a church.

 
Abeiku and Mensah were charged on two counts of conspiracy to steal  and stealing when they appeared before the Winneba Magistrate Court, presided over by Mr Alexander Owerae.
 
Abeiku and Mensah pleaded not guilty on both counts but the court found them guilty after the trial.
 
The church was represented by Pastor Isaac Assafuah-Arthur.
 
The facts of the case as presented to the court by Inspector Peter Agbelie were that on June 11, 2016, Abeiku and Mensah entered the New Beginning Revival Church, still under construction, in Winneba.
 
The prosecutor said Abeiku and Mensah took 55 plastic chairs, 3 plastic tables 15 yards of woollen carpet, two office tables, two coffee tables, three curtains, and six boxes of wall tiles, and 11 Wawa boards all valued at GH₵2,247.
 
Some of the stolen items have been retrieved by the police.  
 
The items yet to be retrieved were  valued at GH₵1,311.
