Stoning Of Mahama's Convoy....Mischievous Concoction To Reduce Tour's Impact Pratt

Media reports on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 indicated that Mahama’s convoy was hooted at and pelted with stones during his tour of the region.

Two residents of Kumasi in the region were reportedly arrested for pelting the president’s convoy with stones.

However contributing to a panel discussion on Radio Gold, the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt said per his checks, there was no attack and that the story was intentionally concocted to make the President unpopular.

"I first saw this allegation on social media...I did a few checks. I called a minister who was in the convoy...and he said it was impossible; nothing like that has happened...

Two things happened at the same time and it is very significant...some mischievous people decided that the President's tour of the Ashanti Region should be denigrated. They wanted to throw mud at the tour. They wanted to reduce the impact of the tour so they concocted this story of an attack on the President's vehicle and published it on social media...I believe the purpose of those who published this on social media was to reduce the impact of the President's tour, was to demonstrate that the President has become so unpopular that people in the public were hooting at him, they were throwing stones at him and so on"

Mr Pratt also bemoaned the use of social media in churning out false information.

"Social media can be used for good but in this election year in Ghana, it is being used not for bad but for worse and the consequences are dangerous for all of us," Kwesi Pratt noted.
