Taking Entrenched Positions Doesn't Promote Good Electoral Governance - Kabila To EC

Spokesperson for the CPP Flagbearer, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, James Kwabena Bomfeh has raised red flags over the data keeping system by the Electoral Commission.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', James Kwabena Bomfeh, also called Kabila; wondered why the Electoral Commission (EC) has failed to keep the data of the names of electorates on the voters register.

He was commenting on the court ruling that the Commission should delete names of National Health Insurance Scheme card holders on the register.

Kabila believed that if the Commission had been able to keep a detailed data of the persons on the register, it would be simple for it to comply with the directive by the Supreme Court.

According to him, having a good data should comprise the names of the registrants as well as the cards they used to register and other vital information that would help the Commission to easily identify the registrants.

He explained to host Kwami Sefa Kayi that the Commission would easily identify the registrants with NHIS cards if the Commission had a proper data.

He also advised the EC not to take entrenched positions in the NHIS saga.

“It is raising a fundamental question about Ghana that nobody will be entirely blamable and nobody is entirely blameless. We all have some questions about it; our attitude towards data keeping . . . Taking entrenched positions that virtually leads to fanatism, does not promote good electoral practice and electoral governance," he said.
