The acting Power Minister, Seth Terkper will be required to explain to Parliament what has accounted for the current challenges with power generation in the country.

This has been necessitated by an urgent questioned filed in the House by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima Mponu, Isaac Asiamah over the current load-shedding exercise. “We will need the Minister for Power to come and brief us about what is happening. Well, the outages are too many,” he told Joynews.

Ghanaians have expressed their disappointment with the governing National Democratic Congress over the resurging power crisis popularly known as “dumsor” especially as the nation has barely five months to head to the November polls.

While addressing a section of the Muslim Community at the Black Star Square as they mark the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, President John Dramani Mahama defended the nation is not heading back to the era of load-shedding.

Rather, he said: “We have recently suffered some generational problems.”

Diagnosing the challenges regarding power generation, President Mahama explained it has come about because of “sabotage in Nigeria on the terminals.” According to him, the crude oil the government ordered last month has since not arrived creating what he described as “generation problems”.

Contradicting President Mahama’s claim, Isaac Asiamah said: “Dumsor is with us and that’s the reality.”

“It is obvious that we are having low-shedding; it is obvious that our current power supply is not enough, and it is obvious that we have to rely on a most expensive source of energy,” he said.

He said he expects the Power Minister to be the truth about the current challenges in power generation in the country.
