Getfund Financed Wa Prisons School Project Inaugurated

President John Mahama has pledged his commitment to Prison Reforms to protect their rights of inmates and to improve the conditions under which they live.

He was speaking after inaugurating a GETFUND financed project for the Wa Prisons. It includes a Basic School Complex, Staff offices, Hygiene Facilities and a Fence Wall.

The brief ceremony was preceded by a guard of honour mounted by the wardens. The President's visit also afforded him the opportunity to held his first meeting with Mr. Alexander Dobari, the prison inmate serving a 14 year jail term who took advantage of government’s historic Private BECE programme that allows for out of school folks like Alex and those who want to improve on their BECE scores to have a fair opportunity to secure the future of their education.

Mr. Alexander Dobari had received presidential mention in the 2014 State of the Nation Address.

The President who was accompanied by a Deputy Minister for Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa also made a donation to prison inmates.
Earlier in the day he inspected another District Assembly Offices Complex building at Nandom. This one is for Nandom.

The Upper West region Accounting To The People Tour ends on Friday. President John Mahama who was joined by Majority Leader, Alban Bagbin, former Attorney General and an NDC Vice Chairperson, Betty Mould Iddrisu, Roads and Highways Minister, Innusah Fuseini, Deputy transport Minister, Joyce Bawa who has been appointed as spokesperson for the NDC Campaign team and the Regional Minister on his tour inspected road projects, the Wa Airstrip expansion project, commissioned the Lambussie Community Day Senior High School and inaugurated some projects including a Library Complex and the new water system for Walembelle which will serve additional 200, 000 households.

He also inspected ongoing projects at the Wa UDS campus, the 160-bed Wa Regional Hospital expansion project and the Wa town roads, 10 kilometers of which will be asphalted.
