The Asanteman Traditional Council has reiterated its call on President Mahama to sack the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Mayor, Kojo Bonsu, for disrespecting them, despite an apology from him.
The decision was taken on Monday, at a crunch meeting by the Council, where they unanimously stated that the Mayor must be replaced.
After the meeting, Nana Agyei Fosu Twitwiakwa explained to Citi News that, the Council will not rescind its decision “simply because, due process has been followed. Our customary practices require that we go through due processes in coming to a conclusion in matters such as this. And having done so, we have not received any justification, any reasoning which should compel us to rescind. We are at a point where the decision is virtually not rescindable, we cannot rescind it.”
They said Mr. Kojo Bonsu had shown much disrespect for sending the Ashanti regional minister, Mr. Alexander Akon to plead on his behalf.
Mr. Kojo Bonsu had over the weekend rendered an “unqualified apology” to Nananom, but the Kumasi Traditional council says it had not received a copy of the apology. Nevertheless, they explained that an apology in a form of a letter, cannot serve as a right apology to Nananom.
They have also refuted claims that the Traditional Council had asked Kojo Bonsu to provide animals for sacrifice so he may be forgiven, and added that a one-week ultimatum has been given to the President to dismiss him.
The Traditional Council last week in a meeting presided over by the Asafohene, Acheamfuor Kwame Akowuah II, demanded that the Kumasi Mayor, be fired for “gross disrespect” shown to Nananom.
