Police Rescue Suspected Thief From Lynching

The timely intervention of a police patrol team from Sekondi saved a suspected thief from being lynched by an angry mob at Kansaworado.

The youth of the area, who were angered by persistent stealing in the farming community, nearly visited mayhem on the suspect, whose name was simply given as Kofi, last Thursday.

An eyewitness who narrated the story to The Finder said the suspect had reportedly entered a room at Sikaduase, a hamlet located within the Kansaworado township, to steal unspecified items around 12 noon that day.

Luck, however, eluded him when a neighbour, who spotted him, raised alarm, which attracted many of the residents to the scene.

The residents, who could not control their anger, started unleashing their venom on the suspect.

According to the eyewitness, the suspect was hit with clubs, stones and any object they could lay their hands on. At a point, he said, someone even fetched dirty water from a nearby gutter and forced him to drink it.

They then poured diesel on him and were about to set him ablaze, but someone relayed what was happening to Skyy Power FM, who informed a police patrol team about the situation , leading to the rescue of the suspect.

The Assembly Member of the area, Mathew Kweku Adams, who also witnessed the bizarre incident, said he could neither prevent it nor control the mob action.

The suspected thief is currently receiving treatment at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi.
