Two female Members of Parliament nearly traded blows in Parliament during a debate on the alleged misogynistic comment of Assin Central Member of Parliament, against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei.

MP for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu Ekuful could not fathom why her colleague and MP for Tano South, Hannah Louisa Bissiw was championing the campaign to get Kennedy Agyapong sanctioned when in fact, she [ Hannah] is also guilty of the same crime.

Gender advocates heavily condemned what they describe as reckless and misogynistic comments by Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyepong after he reportedly accused the chairperson of the Electoral Commission for trading sex for her position.

Mr. Agyepong is reported to have made the comments whilst addressing NPP supporters at Asokwa in Kumasi.

The comments of the MP, who is notorious for inflammatory language, has attracted the anger of government officials such as Gender and Social Protection Minister Nana Oye Lithur and Foreign Affairs Minister Hannah Tetteh, who have called on the MP to retract them and apologize.

There has been series of agitation by women groups to get the MP to apologise and some have even petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho to haul him before the Priviledges Committee.

But Ursula Owusu Ekuful in an interview with Adom News' parliamentary correspondent, said the Tano South MP has no moral authority to lead the campaign after calling her a prostitute in 2015.

The legislator also said when she was attacked by unknown persons at Odododiodio in the Greater-Accra region in 2012, none of the so-called women groups condemned the act.

Based on this backdrop, Ursula Owusu Ekuful said the campaign by the gender advocates led by some Majority female MPs smack of 'hypocrisy and double standards'.

In response, Hannah Bissiw described the allegation of the Ablekuma West MP as false, and dared her to provide evidence.

She maintained that the comment by Ken Agyapong is very unfortunate and he must render an unqualified apology to all women in the country.

But for the intervention of the MP for Lower Manya, Teye Larbi, the situation would have turned bloody.
