President John Mahama has dismissed calls for him to comment on the recent Supreme Court ruling on the voters' register.

Speaking in an interview with Savannah Radio in the Northern region Thursday, Mr. Mahama said he has a lot of issues to handle than to interfere in the work of the competent institutions.

“As a president I don’t interfere in the electoral commission and the Supreme Court, I have enough issues to deal with without taking other people issues on my head and so you haven’t heard me comment on the voters’ register or the Supreme Court ruling, the two institutions are good enough to be able to handle the issues that confront them.

“We have an EC that is well respected and I believe that they will do the right thing… I believe these institutions know how to work things out, I have enough issues on my plate.”

The Supreme Court last week directed the EC to delete names of people who registered with NHIS cards ahead of the 2012 general elections.

The order followed weeks of interpretation controversy that rocked an initial judgment the court made regarding the voters' register.

In the May 5 judgment, the court ordered the EC to expunge names of all persons who registered with NHIS cards, and offer them another opportunity to re-register.
