Work Halts At Tema EC Office Due To Power Outage

Some eligible voters who have issues with their voter identification cards were left disappointed on Monday when officials at the Tema office of the Electoral Commission (EC) turned them away due to power outage.

The office which has got a stand by generator was virtually dark with officials left with task of explaining their inability to serve them.

Most of the people had thronged the place for change of name, corrections in the spelling of their names and ages, among other flaws on the Voter Identity Cards, expressed their disappointment especially on the first day of the exercise.

Some officials of the EC told the Ghana News Agency that in as much as they were ready to correct the flaws for the voters, the power outage has left them with no option than to ask them to go and return when power is restored.

They also indicated that even though they had displayed the deleted NHIS registrants’ names at the premises, nobody have reported to them about seeing their names on the list.

They gave the assurance that those whose particulars were deleted would be duly registered at the office.

Meanwhile, checks at some centres in the Tema metropolis showed that the list of deleted NHIS registrants were not available, such people are therefore referred to the district office.
