The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) is yet to intensify public education in Tema and its environs on the 21-day voter register exhibition exercise which commenced nationwide on Monday.

This has led to low patronage on the first day as exhibition officers at the centres idle about while eligible voters trickle in to check their particulars.

The Directors of the NCCE for Tema Metropolis, Kpone-Katamanso and Ningo-Prampram Districts told the Ghana News Agency that they were yet to intensify public education in their areas.

Madam Gifty Adjeiwaa Badu, NCCE Director for Ningo-Prampram, said leadership of her outfit received training last Friday accounting for the delayed intensified public education.

Mr Isaac Kwame Antwi, NCCE Tema Metropolitan Director, indicated that training for his staff has started and that public education would be intensified subsequently.

Mr Antwi added that his outfit would be relying on the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) to fuel its vehicles to facilitate the education programme.

He also called on organizations and religious institutions to use the NCCE to carry out education for their members to help increase awareness on the exercise.

Mr Oliver Agbenyo, Kpone-Katamanso District NCCE Director, also reiterated the delay in public education stating however that street announcements have started in addition to social groups education.

Mr Agbenyo indicated that even though his outfit has a limited budget for the exercise, he has put in some request to the Kpone-Katamanso District Assembly for assistance to carry out the needed education.

Meanwhile, about 10 centres visited by the GNA have a slow start with only one centre recording 10 checks as at 1000 hours.

At the Padmore Street No Two Centre C, only two out of the 639 registered voters had verified, 10 out of 830 on the register of Akodzo JHS Centre had also checked their particulars.

The centres did not have the list of deleted voters who registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Such persons are referred to the Metropolitan Office of the Electoral Commission.
