Man To Hang For Murder Of Brother

The Tamale High Court has sentenced a 33-year-old man, Mumuni Adama, to death by hanging for the murder of his brother, Yahaya Adama.

The court, presided over by Mr Justice Charles Gyamfi Danquah, handed down the sentence after a seven-man jury had returned a unanimous verdict of guilty of murder.

The convict and the deceased were siblings and lived in the same house with other members of their family at Soma, near Tuna in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District in the Northern Region.

Prosecutor

According to the prosecutor, Mr Salia Quddus, a Principal State Attorney, in November 2008, Adama’s wife quarrelled with her husband’s younger brother and his sister-in-law on their father's farm where they had gone to work.

On her return home, Adama’s wife informed her husband about the incident. Adama was said to have taken offence over the incident and, therefore, beat up his siblings.

Yahaya Adame reprimanded Adama for beating up his siblings because of what his wife had told him and that further infuriated Adama.

Stabbing

On November 2, 2008, Yahaya herded his father's cattle for grazing in the bush and Adama was said to have followed and stabbed him three times in the ribs, leading to his death.

After the act, Adama returned home and without informing any one about the incident, took along his wife and fled t   he village.

When Yahaya failed to return home, and after a diligent search, his father became suspicious about his disappearance and so a complaint was lodged with the police.

Adama was later arrested aboard a vehicle, along with his wife, at a village called Kalba in an attempt to escape.

Upon his arrest, Adama admitted killing his brother and led the police to the bush on the outskirts of Soma and showed them the body of Yahaya, which was later recovered.
