Prospective Police Recruits Begin Screening Exercise

Hundreds of prospective police recruits yesterday began physical screening exercises throughout the country as part of the police enlistment process.

Some 20,000 applicants have qualified for this stage, which is the second stage of the enlistment process into the Ghana Police Service.

The height and other physical features, as per police specifications, would be checked as part of the physical screening.

The applicants will also take an aptitude test, while the enlistment teams will verify the authenticity of the school and birth certificates of the applicants during the week-long screening exercise.

From Sunyani, Emmanuel Adu-Gyamerah reports that the applicants trooped to the Sunyani Coronation Park to take part in the exercise.

The leader of the enlistment team, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Nuhu Jango, told newsmen that 2,420 prospective recruits were expected to take part in the exercise in Sunyani.

Boost to business

The exercise boosted commercial operations around the Coronation Park, as the prospective recruits trooped to business centres to photocopy their documents.

There were visible signs of disappointment on the faces of some of the applicants who had gone through the checking of their height  earlier in the day but failed to make the mark.

Mr Francis Amankwaah, 21, who failed to make the required 5.8 feet mark, told the Daily Graphic: "I am very disappointed."

"My height is 5.6 feet and, according to the police, I am not qualified to be enlisted into the service. I am looking up to God to direct me on my next step in my quest to secure employment,” he added.

It was, however, joy for Mr Thomas Anokye who went through the exercise with his 5.11 feet height.

"It is early days yet. I hope to successfully go through the rest of the exercise in order to be enlisted into the Ghana Police Service,” he said joyously.

Emmanuel Modey reports from Wa that when the Daily Graphic visited the Wa Jubilee Park at 8 a.m., it was observed that the programme was being conducted in a smooth and orderly manner.

The leader of the recruitment team in the Upper West Region, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Madam Habiba Twumasi-Sarpon, spoke to the Daily Graphic and commended the applicants for their smart turnout for the exercise.
