NDC To Introduce New Approach To Appointment Of Ministers, DCEs

In the coming years, regional and district executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will decide the appointments of ministers, metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives should the party win the 2016 elections.

The regional and district executives would nominate a candidate out the several qualified candidates and present the nominee to the president for appointment, Captain Joshua Akamba, Deputy National Organiser of NDC, has said.

He said this approach would help address the confusion and disunity among party executives in the communities regarding the appointment of ministers, metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives.

“This will also help weed out gatecrashers who will want to use power brokers to mediate for them to get appointments to the detriment of committed and qualified party members”.

Captain Akamba said this at the outdooring and launching of Dr Francis Bawaana Dakura as the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Jirapa Constituency.

The National Organiser advised members of the NDC who contested the primaries but lost and decided to run as independent candidates to rescind their decision and support their colleagues.

“Failing to win the primaries should not serve as discouragement to members; rather they should team up with the winners and work with them assiduously to win the elections.

Dr Dakura urged them to bury their difference and put the NDC above individual interests to enable them to win the 216 elections.

“Let us put the party as a vehicle for our development and let us also put the development of the party above individual interests” he said.

Dr Dakura was a Member of Parliament of the Jirapa Constituency from 2009 to 2012 when he the lost the seat to Mr Paul Derigubaa, an independent candidate.

He said he was going to campaign on his track record, and that of the NDC government, which has brought massive development projects to the district.

Dr Dakura said the provision of roads, potable water, health facilities, electricity and the sponsorship of students to tertiary institutions across the length and breath of the district as some of his achievement during the tenure of office.

He appealed to the electorate in the constituency to vote for him and President John Dramani Mahama in the forthcoming elections to bring more development to the people.
