Donkor Eric, a prospective 23-year-old police recruit from Banda Ahenkro in the Brong-Ahafo Region, has been nabbed in Sunyani for allegedly altering his senior high school grades with intent to beat the enlistment officials in the ongoing recruitment exercise.
Eric, who three days ago successfully passed through the first stage of body election exercise, was again with other applicants to go through the documentation process; but luck eluded him when it was detected that the grades on the photocopy of his SHS certificate were different from those on the original certificate.
According to the enlistment officials, Eric altered figures of the English Language, Integrated Science and Technical Drawing. Instead of E8 in English, Eric purportedly made it C6; Integrated Science: from D7 to C5 and Technical Drawing: D7 to C6. He was subsequently arrested and locked up in the police cells for further investigations as the rest went through the exercise.
The three-day exercise, which started last Monday, saw a huge crowd of young men and women having besieged the Coronation Park for the exercise. Applicants were taken through body selection, which included measurement of height, marching, running and arms and stomach.
Though the exercise was cumbersome, both officers and prospective recruits were able to go through the first and the second days successfully. From the beginning, the applicants were standing but getting to the latter part of the day when most of them got tired, one could see some of them sitting down on the green grass.
Speaking to them before commencement of the exercise, the deputy officer in-charge of the enlistment team for the region, COP Nuhu Jango, asked them to feel free and go through the exercise, assuring them that anyone who was genuinely qualified would be recruited. He warned any person among them who had paid money to somebody or any police officers with the promise of aiding them with the recruitment to better go back for the money as the Police Service would not countenance any such bribery and that if caught, they would be dealt with severely.
