President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation, Ben Nunoo-Mensah has challenged Prof. Francis Dodoo to come clean on any correspondence between the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). 

He disclosed that the GOC President, Prof. Francis Dodoo has agreed with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to have the GOC executive congress postponed to next year April instead of this year.

Ghana Sports have gathered instead of a resolution adopted at the at GOC’s last congress on December 18, last year, at which the tenure of the executive board, which expired last October was extended for a year to fall within an Olympic cycle.

According to him the GOC Chairman should disclose the correspondence between him and the IOC, and secondly the right the IOC have on GOC congressmen after they decided to have its executive congress immediately after the Rio games only to hear the IOC are saying something different.

“We need an answer from him . . . It’s surprising why GOC still want to go ahead with that . . . I think it shouldn’t be at all. It's very discouraging to some of us," he said.

He said President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Prof. Francis Dodoo must know that accountability and transparency must be the hallmark of the federation and going forward, the exective congress cannot be postponed to next year as reported.

Prof Dodoo’s term of office ends immediately after the summer Olympics.

“I doubt if the GOC has been that transparent and accountable to the federations . . . I asked the amount of funding they have received from the IOC from Olympic solidarity, we want to know of Ghanaian athletes on IOC scholarship. I asked those questions during the last congress but yet still nothing have been given,” he disclosed.

However, information available to Ghana Sports indicates that; the Volleyball association, Weightlifting federation, Rugby, Handball and others have occasionally kicked against the GOC timetable and dealings.

“When one gets a position to a certain period, you must realize that your term of office will surely end, and if there is something you want to do you must do it fast and clean,” he added.
