Caterers Contracted Under NPP Should Continue Until--Judge

A Kumasi High Court, has re-affirmed an earlier ruling restraining the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Opoku Manu and several others from interfering with the work of caterers appointed by the previous NPP government. The High Court 3, presided over by his Lordship Justice G.H. Debrah, on Thursday afternoon, said the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Opoku Manu, his Deputy, Ennima Wilson and all the District Chief Executives in the region must not interfere with the work of caterers appointed by the NPP administration to manage the school feeding programme till the substantive case is determined by the court. According to our Ashanti Regional correspondent, Sampson Kwame Nyamekye of HELLO FM in Kumasi, lead Counsel for the caterers, Lawyer Kojo Owusu Afriyie (a.k.a. Sir John) exhausted his submissions after nearly three hours, following which the Principal State Attorney for the Ashanti Region, William Kpobi and his three other supporting lawyers from Accra, rounded up by praying the court to dismiss the case outright since it lacked merit. After listening to both sides of the argument by the two counsels, the trial judge, His Lordship Justice G.H. Debrah deferred ruling on the case to 22nd October 2009, however, Justice Debrah stated that the status quo must remain, meaning that caterers contracted under the NPP administration should hold the fort till the final determination of the case.
