Objections Stall Woyome Contempt Suit Against Baako, Others

A Court of Appeal has ordered David Annan, lawyer for businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome, to respond to objections raised against him in the contempt case the businessman has brought against the Despite Group of Companies (Peace FM, Okay FM, UTV), Omni Media (Citi FM), Anthony Karbo, and Kweku Baako.

The contempt application is citing the respondents variously for engaging in acts that were and are calculated to "prejudice the due administration of justice in general, and, in particular, the judgment of the Court of Appeal in the case of the Republic vrs Alfred Agbesi Woyome with suit number H2/17/15 delivered on the 10th of March 2016 …"

But on Tuesday July 26, Egbert Faibille Jr., lawyer for Kweku Baako and Anthony Karbo, as well as lawyer for the Despite Group, Thaddeus Sory, objected to the decision to file the case in the Court of Appeal, saying the case should have been filed at a lower court and that the Court of Appeal was the last resort.

Class FM's court reporter Nabil Ahmed Rufai reported that Mr Woyome's lawyers were, therefore, asked by the court to respond to the objection.
