The Kyekyewere Basic School has pleaded for its inclusion in the feeding programme to bring some relief to the children, many of them come from poor homes.
Mr. Agyenim Boateng, the head teacher, spoke of the disturbing situation where pupils were sent to school on empty stomach because of the high level of poverty in the predominantly Ahafo-Ano North farming community.
Making the appeal through the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he said one hot meal a day would mean a lot to the children.
It would without doubt help to substantially increase the enrolment and the retention of the pupils.
He said there was also the added advantage of improving their health through feeding them with balanced diet.
Mr. Boateng complained of inadequate classrooms and the lack of teachers’ accommodation and called on the district assembly to help tackled these for effective teaching and learning.
Nana Twum Barima, the chief of the community, called for increased support by philanthropists, non-governmental organizations and the assembly to make the school environment academically-friendly.
