I Challenge Prez Mahama To Utilize His "Green Pen" & Free Montie 3 - Abu Ramadan

Abu Ramadan, the former National Youth Organizer of the People's National Convention (PNC), has challenged President John Dramani Mahama to exercise the powers under Article 72 to free the Montie FM contemnors.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Abu Ramadan sarcastically implored the President to heed the calls from party faithfuls and sympathizers of the Salifu Maase, alias Mugabe, Alistair Nelson and Godwin-Ako Gunn to overrule the jail term verdict by the Supreme Court.

Article 72 grants the President the power to "grant to a person convicted of an offence a pardon either free or subject to lawful conditions."

Abu Ramadan called on President Mahama to "use his green pen and free them" because "we live in country where if you’re party is in power, you can do whatever you want.

He explained that the ruling party seems to sanction its members to misconduct themselves and still have the backing of the President when caught in the grips of the law.

"I wouldn’t be surprised when the President does it because there is nothing more left that the President will do to surprise me. He even said I’ve withdrawn nurses’ allowance and later gave it back at a reduced percentage. I plead with you, Your Excellency, to use your green pen, document it and free the boys because by so doing, you will be cutting the nose of the court to spite their faces."

He encouraged the President to take the constitutional steps to remit the sentence in an attempt to spite the Supreme Court.

He should use his green pen – order – to free them. He should stand on Article 72 to free them...The meaning of that action is that if you say I cannot tell you what to do, I can overturn the decision you’ve taken. So, Mr. President; I encourage you. I’m giving you more vim,” he goaded.
