Montie 3: SC Judge Abusers 'Nation Wreckers' � Group
Persons condemning the four-month sentencing of the three Montie FM contemnors – Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn, and Salifu Maase, alias Mugabe – are nation wreckers, Agenda for Change-Volta, a pressure group, has said.
On Wednesday July 27, the Supreme Court of Ghana handed down the jail term to the three convicts. Apart from the jail sentence, each of them was also fined a sum of GHS10000. The owners of the station including Mr Harry Zakkour, who is also the second vice-chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress, as well as Mr Edward Addo, Ato Ahwoi, and Kwesi Kyei Atuah, have been fined GHS30000 each. They are to pay the fine by the end of Thursday July 28 or risk a month’s jail term. The owners have also been asked by the Supreme Court to submit policy documents spelling out how to forestall similar happenings in the future. They have also been asked to ensure that none of their media outlets will be used to scandalise the court or bring it into disrepute.
However, members of the National Democratic Congress, including ministers of state such as Hanna Tetteh, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Dr Edward Omane Boamah have all described the sentence as harsh. The party itself has also expressed similar sentiment. The lawyers for the contemnors, George Loh and Nana Ato Dadzie, amidst the heavy condemnation of the SC judgement by the NDC supporters, have petitioned the president to invoke Article 72 of the Constitution to grant the convicts pardon.
Meanwhile,some party supporters have been heaping abuses on the judges on social media platforms.
But a statement issued by Agenda for Change, co-authored by Bright Amoh Poku, Christo Wisdom Klutse, and Innocent Supremo Tetteh, all spokespersons for the group, said: “AFC Volta wants to categorically state to anyone who stands with the three war instigators and despises the safety of the Supreme Court judges that they are nation wreckers and hypocrites and they do not deserve to be called Ghanaians.”
The group added: “How can someone sell his/her common sense for political affiliation. What if those judges were your parents or family members, what if you were one of those judges? We know the law of Karma simply informs that life is 69, thus what goes around comes around. You want your children to be lawyers and they may be judges one day and if you are supporting the threats, which can lead to murder, then over to you.”

It has been trending on various media in Ghana and on the Internet that the most lenient justice meted out to that unscrupulous radio host, Mugabe Maase, and his two panellists, Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn, is humongous for a contempt [charge]. The most painful occurrence of it is that people who must know better like Ms Hanna Tetteh and Hon. Felix Ofosu Kwakye are frowning upon the ruling and describing it as harsh and a move to impede freedom of speech.
AFC Volta wants to categorically state to anyone who stands with the three war instigators and despises the safety of the Supreme Court judges that they are nation wreckers and hypocrites and they do not deserve to be called Ghanaians. How can someone sell his/her common sense for a political affiliation? What if those judges were your parents or family members, what if you were one of those judges? Although we know and understand that NDC is famed for lawlessness and intimidations, it’s about time someone acted for their imbecility to reduce or vanish.
This is not the first time NDC is attacking Ghanaian judges, they have gone to the extent of murdering some of them and if you think it’s cool for them to sit silent and unconcerned about direct threats, which could lead to repetition of history in the judicial system, then it’s a big joke because once bitten, twice shy.
The Supreme Court judges are human beings, they are parents and they also have families and loved ones, so, when something threatening is said to endanger their lives they must not sit idle because "there is no argument with a man who claims to chew a calabash after he has finished chewing a crab shell." NDC people can do anytime because they have done it before in 1992. In 2009 they started threatening judges because they were losing cases in the court against their political opponents, they also threatened judges in the 2012 petition case hearing and they have iterated to the extreme and now people are crying foul of their imbecility? No wonder someone said on radio that Ghana is full of jokers. We have not forgotten the infamous comments made by NDC's Kwabena Adjei: "There are so many ways of killing the cat".
If your father or mother were one of those Judges, who were murdered on 30th June 1982, or if any of the Supreme Court judges were your family member, you wouldn't be overcrowded with political mentality to speak against their ruling. This affirms the wise saying that "Sɛ ɛtua wo yonko ho a...".
We are calling upon all right-thinking and peace-loving Ghanaians to applaud the leniency of the Supreme Court’s justice to these terrible creatures who have sold their conscience for common food.
Finally, Freedom of speech is the expression of opinion not expression of threats and hate. People should not forget what triggered the war in Rwanda. We are urging all Supreme Court accusers to be discrete in their judgement and put themselves in the position of the judges.
