Mr. Charles Oteng, the District Coordinating Director, who is currently acting as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, had to prompt the District Police Commander, DSP Ofori Donkoh to call for reinforcement from Abuakwa to beef up the personnel at Nkawie, before calm was restored. The Acting DCE, had to part with GH500 before the 160 strong physically disable who came in their wheel chairs will disperse. Speaking later to this reporter, the Chairman of the physically disabled Dr. Kwadwo Amponsah, a herbal doctor, said for the past five years, the association had been deprived of its share of tow percent from the District Assembly fund. According to the Associations Secretary, Mr. Owusu Ansah, their members had been having difficult times and engaging in mental jobs to make ends meet. He mentioned shoemaking, auto-mechanics and watch repairs as some of their vocation. A disabled, who gave his name as Wofa-K, lamented that, anyone can be a disable, as they are registering more members. He revealed that, sometimes DCEs and DCDs in the Ashanti region asked them to bring their proposals for the use of the funds before some of the funds are release to them. If there is no programme for the whole year, where is our share of the Common Fund. The Atwima-Nwabiagya District is the only place without an appointed DCE.
