The former Attorney-General under the New Patriotic Party government, Ayikoi Otoo, has hit hard at President Mills, describing as irrelevant his directive for the Attorney General to go to UK for the court proceedings in the ranging Mabey and Johnson bribery scandal. �If Mills is serious he should not use the Attorney-General, its either he uses CHRAJ or he employs an independent prosecutor to investigate the scandal�, he stated. According to the former Attorney General who is also gunning for the position of the Grater Accra Regional Chairmanship slot, it will not be effective to ask the Attorney General whose mandate is to prosecute to investigate the same people she sits in cabinet meetings with. The soft spoken Ayikoi Otoo told newsmen in an exclusive interview last Wednesday in his office in Accra, that unless the President would not accept the reparation from Maybe and Johnson but if he will, then he should as well act through CHRAJ or an independent prosecutor. �Honestly I don�t see the need for President Mills directing the Attorney-General to go to UK and investigate. What is she going to look for, if the informational we have that Mills has given hints that he would accept the reparation is true then the President has already indicted himself and must act�, Ayikoi Otoo underscored. The legal luminary who served a very useful term under the NPP argued, that arguments by the indicted government officials that they were not invited for their side of the case was floored. He said �If you look at the area they targeted, clearly the circumstantial evidence tells they dealt with them and besides, those who say they were not contacted for their side of the case should bear in mind that they were not on trail." The ex-Attorney-General jointed the list of pressure groups and individuals calling on the indicted officials to resign from the post to allow for investigations to go on saying �this is a test case for the President and the wise things he can do is to ask his people to resign so investigations can go on�. The former National Secretary of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) told this paper that, like the case of the former US President Bill Clinton where an independent prosecutor, Kenneth Star investigated, President Mills should employ an independent prosecutor who would not be accused of bias to investigate the Maybe and Johnson Bribery scandal.
