The Law Protection Foundation (LPF) says it will submit to the Supreme Court today, Monday, August 1, an audio recording tape on which a deputy minister-designate for the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, John Oti Bless, is captured scandalising the Supreme Court, specifically the Chief Justice, during one of his appearances on a controversial political talk show called Pampaso on Accra-based private radio station Montie FM.
On the audiotape, the Nkwanta North MP, who recently received the go-ahead by parliament’s Appointment Committee after being vetting, Oti Bless, who is also the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Nkwanta North, accused the Chief Justice of political bias, claiming Justice Georgina Wood was manipulating the Bench for a pre-determined political end.
While commending the Supreme Court for jailing the three Montie FM contemnors – Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn, and Salifu Maase, alias Mugabe – for scandalising the court and bringing its name into disrepute as a result of a death threat they issued against the justices during a discussion on the Pampaso programme, the group said it is submitting the audio to the registry of the court for appropriate actions to be taken against the lawmaker who is a member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
A statement issued by its convener Anthony Fredua Tamakloe said: “We, LAW PROTECTION FOUNDATION (LPF), wish to express our profound gratitude to the apex court (SC) for stamping their authoritative verdict on the MONTIE 3 CASE , and so have scheduled a Thanksgiving Float on 1/08/2016 through the principal streets of Accra. We are thankful for such deterrent sentence on such despicable act of journalism and disrespect for the highest authority, SC.”
“We, LPF, have received confirmation from Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) that since 27/07/2016, the date of sentence, the media has been characterised with sanity. We believe this is good for a country going into elections in less than five months.
“In another twist, we have discovered a fresh evidence to the effect that an honorable member of parliament was also on the MONTIE SHOW who also made contemptuous statements with the jailed 3. We shall submit the audio to your registry first thing 1/08/2016 for the consideration of the apex court. We trust as usual that justice shall be delivered.”
