I Will Kill You Like The Policeman Killed His Mother In-Law - Man Tells Wife

An Accra Circuit Court has cautioned Ivy Nyarko, a mother of four, to find alternative accommodation, as the husband has threatened to kill her like a policeman killed his mother-in-law and his two children.

According to her, the husband, Ebenezer Acheampong, has been issuing threats to kill her, but on July 26, this year, he became serious, telling her “I will kill you like the policeman killed his mother in-law and his two children and committed suicide.”

She said the husband told her that after he heard in the news that a police officer had killed his family.

Although he has pleaded not guilty to the charge of threat of death, contrary to section 75 of the criminal code 1960 act 29/60, the court, presided over by Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, remanded him to reappear on August 8.

Facts

The complainant and accused person are married couple, blessed with four children. For some time now, they have been having misunderstanding, and the accused assaulted the complainant on several occasions, buts he kept her ordeal to herself to save her marriage.

On July 26, 2016, the accused person heard a news item on radio, announcing that a policeman had murdered his mother in-law and two children and committed suicide in Tema. He called the complainant to come and listen, and he repeated the news to her.

He further threatened her that her behavior in the house will lead to such an act very soon. This put the complainant in fear, and she went to the Kwabenya Police Station to lodge a complaint.

When the accused person was arrested, he threatened at the station that when he comes home to meet the complainant, she should count herself dead.

That case was later transferred to the Madina Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, and after investigations he was put before court.
