Stop Meddling In Teachers Transfer - Director

The New Juaben Municipal Director of Education, Mr Kwame Ofori, has asked the municipal assembly to stop meddling in the transfer of teachers to the municipality.

He expressed discomfort with the situation where the assembly had kept giving out ‘assurance letters’ for teachers to be sent to the area and said this was creating problems of over-staffing.

He said they now had in excess 1,200 teachers and said the figure was sufficient for schools in the municipality.

Mr. Ofori, who was contributing to a discussion at a Town Hall meeting organized by the assembly in Koforidua said the irony was that majority of those given the ‘assurance letters’ were from rural areas and districts where their services were most needed.

The meeting provided the platform to highlight the development projects and programmes initiated by the assembly.

The Education Director underlined the need for parents to spend quality time and properly supervise their children in the home.

He complained about the growing fascination with the telenovelas and said that was affecting school performance in the municipality.

Mr. Ofori reminded parents that education was a shared responsibility between parents, teachers and other stakeholders adding that, as teachers did their part in the school, parents should must accept to do their part of the bargain.

Mr Kwabena Okyere-Kusi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), advised parents to protect children from negative peer influence
