NPP Undermining Established Consensus Procedures At IPAC NDC

National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia has blamed the opposition New Patriotic Party for hindering the cultivation of consensus building at the Inter Party Advisory Committee(IPAC) which is key to the country’s democracy ahead of the December polls.

“The posture of the NPP clearly undermines established consensus procedures for our electoral matters. If we don’t take care it will force the EC to take a second look at the relevance of IPAC in this dispensation, as the NPP is always seen creating controversies in dialogue in the IPAC meetings,” he told Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM.

His comment comes in the wake of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)  sudden opposition to a decision to electronically transmit election results as agreed among parties at IPAC.

He said it was only wise for the country to settle on discussing electoral matters first at the IPAC level before arriving at a consensus for onward action on electoral regulations, but the NPP is frustrating the operations of IPAC following its needless opposition to matters discussed on such forum.

“We’ve tolerated them for so long on some of these things because we felt as opposition party because they are desperate it is likely they will behave funny on issues of national interest, but if we don’t take care they will erode the confidence in IPAC as a body,” Asiedu Nketiah said.

Meanwhile the NPP has accused the EC of not being transparent enough about the proposed Electronic Results Transmission System (ERTS) for the elections.

The party’s campaign manager for the 2016 elections, Peter Mac Manu, made this comment in response to statements by representatives of the EC and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), that the NPP had agreed to the electronic transmission of results during the election, which he described as propaganda.
