GPHA to assist government

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), will collaborate with other stakeholders in the maritime industry to help government to achieve the objectives of the Ghana Gateway Programme. Mr Nestor Percy Galley, Director-General of GPHA, made the pledge at a durbar of staff of the Authority in Tema on Friday. He said plans were far advanced by GPHA for the expansion of the Ports to attract bigger vessels adding "We are working towards solving the problem of laid-up vessels to ease congestion in the Tema Fishing Harbour." Mr Galley said the Authority would also the development oil services facilities at the Takoradi Port to support the oil and gas industry. He said that studies would be conducted for towards the turning of the Meridian Road in Tema a dual carriage to link the Tema Motorway and the Nungua barrier road, to ease traffic from the Tema Port. Mr Galley warned the staff against lateness, absenteeism, malingering, drunkenness, and pilfering and said any caught engaging in these acts would not be spared. He assured the workers that he would work to improve their welfare accommodation situation and conditions of service. Mr Galley called on workers, management of the Authority and other stakeholders to work together to offer improved services to attract more customers to the Ports. Mr Richard Aburi-Yinga Anamoo, Director of the Tema Port, advised the workers to give of their best to enable GPHA become the hub of the West African sub-region. During an open forum, the workers urged the management to do more to improve their service conditions.
